If all healer spots are taken, sign up for dps - it seems other (inc Dtint) have put their names forward for dps spots if there are more than enough healers.

Neither is the gear of half the other people along, but don't get me started on that! Dtint has a healing spot currently, but says he will switch to dps if another healer wants to join.

I know I really shouldn't and part of me is revelling in all the time I have to play "proper" games, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to see WOTLK finished, especially after all the time I've put into it so far.

I've just got done reinstalling and patching it all, but I'm not going to jump quite yet. I'll spend a day in the Real World(tm) see how I feel about it on Monday morning.

...it'll only take a month...

...it's only for a month...

. . . .

help... me...

Ah feck, I went and did it anyway. Fingers crossed I get to see Arthas down within the next 28 days, I was enjoying the freedom that not playing an MMO brings.  Gaah!

Observations about WoW 3.3.2 made since returning this afternoon:

1: The new Dungeon Finder tool makes grouping and instancing more convenient than ever. This is both a good and a bad thing, as while you can always get a group to where you're going within a couple of minutes, you will likely never play with the same person twice unless you group with them first, and most of the people you do meet are in an incredible rush to get their phat lootz, which leads to:

2: Gearing up for the latest raid, ie. ICC is now easier than ever before, as the Heroic 5-mans are handing out ilvl 232 gear like candy, you now get stupid amounts of badges for ilvl 232 Tier 9 gear handed to you every time you do anything, and you can pick up a set amount of badges for ilvl 251 Tier 10 for the first Heroic you do every day, and for killing the first boss in a randomly chosen and massively pugged Raid once a week.

However, the downside of the pugged weekly raid is that it has led to a wonderful add-on named "Gear-Score" (GS for short) that rates your gear with a numerical figure.  Many pugs seem to think that this magical figure is an indication of your ability to play a certain class.  Therefore you don't get in to many of these pugs unless your score is above a certain total.  And as you say, everyone is in an incredible rush to get through things and walk off with their epix  Bang Head

My subs ran out a week ago btw, and my lvl 80 Nelf rogue was coming along so nicely Sad

So, have you wheedled your way back into VBN then?

Aye, GearScore was just starting to gain in popularity when I last left the game. The unwashed masses of WoW are worse than ever, I'd swear that 90% of the players would be even happier if the server just mailed them a couple of badges every day and a new bit of loot every fortnight, and all they had to do was check their post.

I haven't re-guilded yet, I've been concentrating on getting my add-ons back in shape. I'll probably grab Khione at some point tomorrow evening and give him first shot at The Power of Taidan. If he's not interested, there will be plenty of other takers for The Best Healer on Runetotem, I'm sure.

Pfft - I'd say get off of Runetotem!  I have found being on a server without selfish, arrogant, and unfriendly Italians to be absolutely blissful!  There don't seem to be that many in the battlegroup I was on either, which has made the lfg tool even better.

Oh, that's one thing I was going to say too, now is a great time for levelling a new character.  Levelling with the lfg tool meant I didn't miss out on many dungeon quests (although full Mauradon and BRD runs are very rare), and even got 2 BRD Emperor kills out of it.  You even get given rare quality (blue) armour + glodz for using the lfg in levelling instances.  With Blizz promising to totally rework the Old World with Cataclysm, the next few months are also going to be the last chance to play the game as it has been since the beginning too.

Sounds like fun to me, would ye recommend a server?

I will be sticking with Taidan on Runetotem for a little while, at least until I've killed Arthas, but I could potentially have that done within a week if I go with the right raid.

I was briefly tempted to transfer my main three characters to another server and give them all race changes to make them Alliance... Until I saw that would cost me over £100, so I figured I'd just start all over again.

Well, I played my 60 days on Saurfang, cause that's the server the couple of mates were on who got me the game cards.  It's a relatively new server, only a year old, and it is recommended for 'new players' which has both it's pro's and cons.

Whilst there are genuinely a lot of new players who haven't a clue, that also means that there is plenty of use for players who do know what they are doing.  It also means that there aren't that many guilds who are completely up themselves - in fact many would say that the most arrogant guild is on Horde side there.  Generally though, I found the people to be nice and helpful, plenty of high level crafters willing to make stuff.  Trade can be a bit lively at times, and quite funny with it (in a 'just how serious do people get' type of way!).  During the day, Horde own WG, but from about 10pm the next 12 hours belongs to Ally.  Ally has a slight lead on numbers, but nothing too problematic (about 1.25:1 I think it was).

If you decide to give it a go there, I can hook you up with a mate who is in a VBN type guild there too.  You'll like him, his main is feral and he has been around in the game quite a bit.  The guild (Team XD) sound short on committed raiders for 10 man though, so would be a useful one for getting in to.  I'm planning on trying to get in them when I've scraped enough together to renew my subs.

One downside is the AH is pricey - but for those who know how to manipulate that, it can be a very profitable place.  When my subs ran out I had dual-spec, all mount/flight ranks paid for, and 4.5k gold still spare - and that's with skinning/lw as my professions!
